The AWA Delta 3....

(wow)

Well, I picked this up at a swap meet several years ago, I didn't know what it was, but it had many 3 pole switches and leds etc that I thought I'd scavenge for my projects.

The other day I was cleaning my workshop up and (re)found it. I cleaned it up, and powered it up and was surprised to find it didn't explode or catch fire.

I need some help, I want to know what it was used for, a search on the internet showed they can be used for traffic control, adjusting the traffic lights depending on how heavy the conditions were. Other than that I just draw blanks.

Here's the beastie, just click the thumbnails to get a viewable size image..

rack2

This is the entire Rack.. On the outsides are an awa sticker

"AWA Type:1G71351, SER. NO. 1270, LOGIC RACK"

Written in pen on the side is "TMS O/NO 1168, S/NO 1270"

This is the Control Module, it has AWA DELTA 3 on the top, a layer of 8 leds followed by a switch, an 8 digit LCD display, followed by 2 banks of 8 2 pole switches. Then there is a hexidecimal keypad with switches on the side, a 15 pin plug labeled control, a fuse (4A) and mains plug.

The processor module, LED's indicating "WATCHDOG, STARTUP, CLOCK CAL, COMMS OK, POWER OK, UPDATE, RAM SELECTED, RAM VALID, PROM VALID"

Below them, there's a "Personality Module" It's removable with a plug similar to a printer port. The module itself appears empty, with a plug for an EPROM in it. Under that it a plug labeled Computer Term.

It has written on the board TMS O/N:1168 S/N 1388.

The main processor appeatrs to be a Motorla MC68A02P, and the board has a ROM "DELTA3 D56 27256 C7VR19 4-8-87" I'm guessing that's a date, 4th Aug 1987. The clock crystal is 5.0688.

This is the comms module, Carrier LED, modem switch, Field Data Term, and 9 pin modem term.

Here's the I/O module, 16 3 pole switches with LED's, Input plug, Output B/D plug and Output A/C plug.

Here's the whole system with power applied.

Any help figuring out what this system was used for will be appreciated. I originally bought it for parts, but it seems a shame to wreck the beast.
